General Directions
Buttonwillow is located 1/2 mile west of Interstate 5 on Lerdo Highway, which is about 10 miles north of the I-5 Buttonwillow/Highway 58 interchange (about 28 miles from Bakersfield, 196 miles from San Jose, and 126 miles from Los Angeles).
From wherever you are: make your way to I-5 and head north or south (as is appropriate) towards Buttonwillow. At the Lerdo Highway exit, head west for 1/2 mile and the entrance road for the track will be on the left, across from the John Deere tractor factory.
Use MapQuest to get directions from your location to Buttonwillow.
Track Specifics
Buttonwillow is multi-configurational, with the longest track (Big Track) being ~3.0 miles. The AFM runs clockwise, using what
Buttonwillow calls the #13 configuration. The course is in the flat cotton-fields but has some man-made
elevation changes to make things more interesting and challenging. The overall elevation changes are small
at around 10-15 feet. Almost the whole course can be seen from the pit area, which is well laid out and with
excellent facilities. This is facility which will be evolving as time goes by. For a full-page map of
the AFM configuration, visit the Forms section or

Early Pioneer Descriptions of the Track
We have chronicled descriptions of the track from an early scouting party member and an open practice attendee. You can read them on the Racers Perspective page.
Local Accommodations and Resources:
There are a number of motels to choose from in Bakersfield, and off I-5 (at interchanges of Lerdo Highway, Stockdale Highway, Hwy. 58), as well as a number of (mostly) fast food restaurants, and gas stations. Bakersfield probably has the closest auto parts stores or motorcycle shops. For a list of local hotels, visit the Buttonwillow Raceway Lodging Page.
