General Directions
Thunderhill is located near the town of Willows, which is about 85 miles north of Sacramento on Interstate 5. There are a few small Thunderhill/SCCA signs on I-5 at Willows, but you'll have to keep an eye out for them.
From wherever you are: make your way to I-5 and head north or south (as is appropriate) towards Willows. At Willows, take the Hwy 162 exit and head west for about 7 miles until you reach the Thunderhill gate.

Track Specifics
Thunderhill as the AFM runs it is approximately 3 miles long, in a counter-clockwise direction. The course is in the low foothills and
is laid out following the terrain. There are elevation changes, but the overall change is small at around
15-20 feet. Almost the whole course can be seen from the pit area, which is good since there are presently
no access roads surrounding the course. The SCCA has designed the course to best use the terrain while
creating some interesting turns reminiscent of favorite ones from other facilities. For a full-page map of
the AFM configuration, visit the Forms section or

Thunderhill Paddock Layout
The AFM race weekends generally utilize a paddock layout like the one below.
Early Descriptions of the Track
We have chronicled the notes and comments of an early scouting party to the Thunderhill (before the extra
course additions). These are from the first racing motorcyclists ever to run the course. You can read
them on the Racers Perspective page.
Local Accommodations and Resources
There are a number of motels to choose from in Willows, as well as a number of restaurants, fast food, a grocery store, a couple of parts stores, and a Wal-Mart, etc. Chico or Sacramento probably have the closest motorcycle shops. For a list of local hotels, visit the Thunderhill Raceway Lodging Page.
