• Five of us went for a ride this weekend and Ules took a spill. He hit a fence post hard breaking his right Femur, Humerus, Radius, and Ulna. We were about 12 miles north of Jenner. Ules was airlifted to Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa where tonight he is undergoing surgery on his leg and upper arm. Tomorrow they will operate on his lower arm. Pins, rods, and screws all around. Is there a AFM email distribution like the one USARM has to let people know that he is hospitalized? If so, is it appropriate to use for this?

• I just got done typing your email, and when I signed on to send it, yours was there for me. Thanks for contacting me. I think you have the jist of it. The only thing I would add is that if they want more info. or want to contact him, have them call me at the numbers I gave to you. Calling work is OK, not a problem, no worries. In the big picture he will be fine, no head, back, or internal injuries, but he's pretty beat up at the moment. Lots-O-Drugs. Thanks again Phill.
• Brad UPDATE: At this moment he is in surgery. They will repair all the broken bones tonight. Tomorrow they will do surgery to repair some nerve damage. I have no idea what that means. I'll keep you updated...

• Thank you to all who have responded with your concerns and good wishes. I will be going up to see Ules on Thursday and intent to take any and all of the notes that Phill and I have received. Thanks again and keep up the good thoughts.

• Sharon and I visited Ules tonight. We talked...we even chuckled here and there. He is in good spirits despite the severity of his injuries. But you would be too if they put you on a machine that dispenses Morphine at the push of a button. And yes, Ules controls the button.
• He has a long road to travel, but seems to be starting down the right path. He was very, sincerely thankful for all of the emails and good wishes. (Any cards that were sent to the hospital haven't been delivered yet due to the fact that he has been moved around so much.) And I believe the support he has received has helped him get along.
• This is how things have gone down so far. Monday, leg surgery. Tuesday, arm surgery. Wednesday, emergency leg surgery because he had no feeling or pulse in his leg. Apparently the broken bone severed an artery and was missed the first time in. This may have contributed to his good mood today, because when he woke up on Wednesday, he thought his leg was amputated due to the lack of feeling. But it's not, and now the doctors say the leg will be ok: 99% recovery.
• His arm was broken up worse than expected and appears that the elbow is damaged. He will be in surgery on Friday to hopefully finish the work. Neither Ules' arm or leg have been sewn shut because of all the swelling and to date he has received two blood transfusions.
• Ules was moved back to ICU for closer treatment/observation. His family said that he was on a respirator earlier in the day due to fluid accumulating in his lungs, but when I was there he was sitting up slightly and breathing on his own.
• It took me awhile to write this because I wasn't sure what to say regarding his injuries. I decided to give it all to you because when I talk to people they want to know everything. So if the "gory" details offend you, I apologize. That is not my intent.
• All in all I felt better about Ules' situation after seeing him. It helped to see his strength in such a critical condition. Again, any notes of encouragement are greatly appreciated and you can forward them to me or mail them to his home address which was previously posted.
• I am out of town until Monday morning, but will be in touch shortly thereafter.

• Hi, As those of you who have been getting updates know, Ules has had a rough week. He has just completed his 5th surgery and things are still rocky but I am optimistic for recovery. Tanisha and the doctors feel that visitors are going to be a key element in the recovery process. So here's the point, Ules family & physicians want to encourage as many friends as possible to come visit. The phone # is (707) 576-4535, Room 315 in ICU, just check in before making the trip so you know he'll be there & conscious. The positive effects of your visit will mean the world of difference to Ules and his family. Thanks for your time and concern.

• Wednesday, April 25
• Things have drastically changed since my last update. Ules' arm is doing great and he should have the last surgery for it on Thursday. PT would start most likely Thursday or Friday of this week. Tuesday night his right leg was amputated at the bottom of the knee due to circulation problems stemming from the broken Femur. Use of the knee will be determined as he starts rehabilitation.
• Ules is doing great. Although very tired and still in pain, his attitude is positive and of a healthy future. He is looking forward to getting better, returning to the track, and riding his motorcycle again.
• The support everyone has given has been overwhelming, too overwhelming for the ICU unit which cares for him. For this reason, and for the need of some serious rest and healing time, Ules has requested that visits be put on hold and that all phones calls be directed to me. At least until he is out of ICU. I can be reached at the numbers below and will be in touch with him every couple of days or so. I guarantee that any calls will be forwarded to Ules and any questions answered to the best of my ability. All emails will still be delivered to him. (The loves the emails!!!) Any snail mail may still be sent to his home.
• I can't stress enough how grateful he is for all the support. And I too thank you. His room is strewn with cards and little ditties people have sent. Soon we all will be able to welcome him back in person.

• The report is good. Ules will be in ICU for a couple of more days then moved into a regular room for about a week. He then will be staying at a rehabilitation clinic somewhere in the Bay Area for two weeks getting used to things. He had surgery on Tuesday and will have it again on Thursday just to put the finishing touches on the leg. I am told it is standard procedure, being careful to make sure that there is good circulation and no more infection. His arm is closed and the swelling has subsided.
• Ules once again wanted me to make sure and thank you all for your support. Shortly, he should be able to take calls and visits once again. Until then, I will continue to forward calls and emails to him.

• Ules is doing much better, still in some pain, but his energy level is improving by the day. His arm goes to a limited range brace this week, losing the exterior soft cast. Rehab, rehab, rehab. Hopefully the last leg surgery was today (Monday), but I won't know until tomorrow. He is up for visitors now, so if ya got the gumption...he is still in Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa's ICU.

• Well, the good day has finally come. Ules was released from the hospital last Friday. He is staying at his mother's house until he can walk on his own. His house has many stairs and with daily trips to therapy and the such...
• I spoke with Ules today and he was very happy to be out and about. He was very grateful and wanted me to thank you from the bottom of his heart for the card and donations. Without a doubt, all of the support he has received, has helped his recovery. He is welcoming calls and visits. Everything can be directed to Ules himself at 510-724-5433.
