AFM - Electronic Scoring System Basics

The AMB TranX260 automated timing and scoring system provides clubs and race organizations with professional-level race results. The timing system provides racers with valuable race data including individual lap times, overall points and more. The system keeps track of results live during the race, which can be sent simultaneously to scoreboards. Final race results are ready for print and posting at https://my.afmracing.org/ti/afm immediately following the race.

Since each racer needs his/her own Personal Transponder, AMB has developed two types to meet their specific needs. With millions of available transponder numbers, racers can utilize their Personal Transponder with any of the thousands of tracks and clubs in the world using an AMB system.

Caring for your Transponder

1 - A transponder takes sixteen hours to receive a full charge. Once the light turns green, unplug the charging cradle.
2 - It is a good idea to give your transponder a full charge at least once every three months.
3 - When charging your transponder, it is always best to give it a full charge and then let that charge wear off completely.
4 - Keeping your charged transponder in the charging cradle, while it is unplugged, puts it into a sleep mode. This will extend the charge.

These four points will help extend the life of your transponder beyond 8-10 years.

Transponder FAQs

Do I have to keep the transponder on during Practice?

Yes, it must be on the bike anytime you are on the track at AFM events...Saturday or Sunday. Tech will check for it.

What if I break it, or crash on it, or lose it?

Riders are responsible for taking care of their transponder. Loss or damage is your responsibility. The good news is that they are very rugged and they typically crash very well. They would have to take one heck of a hit to break them. This is where mounting might play a factor. The best spot to mount them is on the fork tubes behind the number plate.

Is the transponder waterproof?

We're not sure if they're depth tested but, yes, there is no problem getting them wet in the rain.

When will I get lap times?

Now. Lap time data is collected as a part of the scoring function. Lap times can be viewed on your laptop or on a Timing and Scoring laptop. Lap time sheets are available when requested. After each practice session, the fastest lap from each rider will be posted in the main building.

It's essential that you go to the main building and get your lap time data.

This ensures that your transponder is working properly and you will be correctly scored in your races. If you don't find a lap time for your bike, check your transponder for proper functioning. An alternate mounting method may be required.

What should I do if the preliminary results (posted on race day) show me in the wrong position, down a lap or otherwise mis-scored?

The preliminary results are just that: preliminary. And they aren't necessarily 100% accurate, since they are based only on e-scoring data (which can transpose close finishes or if your transponder is not picked up consistently, will miss a lap or more). If you feel there is an error, come to scoring within 30 minutes of posting for verification.

The final and official results (released around 1-6 days after each event) have been carefully tabulated and compared for accuracy with both e-scoring and manual scoring data, and are corrected as best as possible based on all the available data. Those final results should be correct and accurate. If the final results are not correct, let AFM know what's wrong **( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it )
