    Top Novice question

    hitman5532 » Sat May 16, 2009 9:41 am

Rule 2.2.2 b) says "novices with more than 6 finishes (or three race days) from previous seasons will be excluded from this award"

Do clubman races count toward the number of race finishes?

When it states "race days" does it mean to say race weekend? Will a saturady race and then a sunday race of the same weekend count as 2 race days?

Clubman races dont count as a race. Also race weekend is basically a race finish, whteher you race both saturday and Sunday and whether you race one race or 6 on sunday.

So for isntance, to get your white plates, you have to race 6 different race weekends and finish, within 2 years to get white plates. You cant go race 3 races on Sunday and count that as three race finishes, it would still only count as one race weekend.

So if I race in 3 race weekends this year, as long as I don't go above 6 finshed races (not counting clubman), I will still be eligiable for top novice in 2010

If a race weekend counts as one race finsh, why do they differ on the number count 3 race days vs. 6 race finsihes ? It is still counted as one race finsih even if I do 3 races on sunday and finish in all of them?

I'm pretty sure a race day is a race weekend.

If you do 4 races in a weekend, you could exceed the 6 race limit in two weekends.

If you do 2 sunday races in a weekend, you would have to do a 4th weekend to disqualify (looks like that was intended at the standard)

finish races on 4 weekends or finish 7 races and you are DQ from top novice for the next year.

You may want to get the clubman races not counting towards the top novice races verified by the board.

The rule book only states that Formula Vintage and F40 do not count towards top novice.

Clubman races are noted as not counting towards the needed six races to advance to expert. Top Novice also refers to section 6.2 for scoring... this section does not specifically mention top novice as being excluded from the scoring of points.

    Ed,

I am going by what is in the rule book under Top Novice.

Section 2.2.2(b) doesn't exclude Clubman. I am sure the intentions were to not have Clubman be included for Top Novice, but the rule book doesn't specifically exclude it (on excludes F Vintage and F 40).

This probably is a good option for the rules session at the end of the year to specifically clarify the intentions in the rulebook so there won't be any ambiguity going forward.

As for section 6.1.4 of the rulebook, that are has some ambiguity as well, as one could claim overall points are in relation to the points used to determine plates 6-10 and are separate from top novice (since it's not specifically noted as it is in section 6.2.4 where it's covering overall points and specifically includes Top Novice.

Again, could be some more clarification to the rule book to remove some of the unclarity.
