Z, I don't think it's going to be a T-bone-fest or anything but the main problem with the new chicane is on the exit when you get on the gas hard while still at max lean. I fear we'll see a lot of people spinning up their rear tires and getting punted off the top. It's just the nature of the turn.

Personally, I like the new T9 chicane. But then, my bike makes no power but does handle well.

    Chris.

so turn sucks because we dont know how to get through it without crashing?
    how about drag racing?

Isn't that the exact same rationale for why we're not running old T9?

Actually turn sucks because boring. Laughing The old turn 9-10 was awesome, my favorite part of the whole track, just a wonderful flowing pair of high-speed turns. The T9 chicane ruins the flow, as well as presenting a real hazard to folks trying to get on the gas and drive into T10. And lots of folks will be pinned well into or through T10 now, so I'll bet money we'll see more crashes there too.

If liability after a fatal accident is the concern with Infineon, why are we still running the carousel? And if we have to "do something" to reduce risk and head off the lawyers, what's wrong with air fence all along the outside of the old T9?

I believe the rationale for the "new" T9 is not because of the old T9 but rather to slow people down through T10 (since the wall is right there).

I rode it today and actualy like ama turn 9 better than old 9.
no flying in to walls, hard braking..
nobody crashed there today, and there were many crashes everywhere else.

Yeah, it was a great day. Thanks for your help Zoran yesterday Wink . I agree, Now, having run that turn for the first time, I'm just wondering and thinking that it's only a matter of time before someone's going to bin it in the entrance and end up coming across to the exit of that turn. And I think 10 will still claim it's share. Doesn't matter now really, done deal. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Turn 9 bypass was not something that the AFM came up with. It is what the AMA mandated for maintaining safety at the track. Personally, I think ANY turn that has claimed the lives of at least 3 AFM racers(the number stated after Jimmy was killed) is a turn that should be eliminated if possible and the AMA T9 bypass does fix that specific problem. I personally LIKE the new configuration, but I also sucked throuh the OLD T9. It is going to take some time to get up to speed and I do think there are going to be some crashes on the brakes and on the exit. I also think someone is going to have to really mess up to reenter the track on crashing on the entrance to the chicane. GP

Well you guys certainly have more knowledge/savvy in these matters than I do so I'll defer to that.

could someone post a track map of what the new course will look like? could give people a little better perspectice and let newer racers know what we are talking about. I know a revised track map posted here would help me visualize a little better

This photo (from a few years back) shows the AMA T9 (upper right) in pretty clear detail. It's changed *some* since then, though not significantly. Others can describe the changes made since this was taken.

ohhh, see that doesn't look good at all to me. its wierd but that doesn't seem safer to me(than the afm turn). does anyone else think so? just seems like a good place to get rammed from behind by an overzealous rider. I race 600 classes so now I am really scared Shocked

Didn't Duhamel crash on the exit, not the entrance? Highside and land on head?
